TSB: 09-009/062004-2006 MAZDA3 - REAR SEAT CUSHION - LOCKS STICK TO SEAT DURING REMOVAL
APPLICABLE MODEL(S)/VINS
2004-2006 Mazda3 vehicles with VINs lower than JM1 BK**** ** 497811 (produced before March 1, 2006)
DESCRIPTION
On Mazda3 vehicles, locks are fitted to the floor to attach the rear seat cushion to the vehicle. In some cases the locks may not remain attached to the body and may come off with the rear seat cushion when the cushion is removed for service.
As a mass production change, updated locks will be installed in vehicles produced after March 1, 2006.
This service bulletin is being published as an aid to identify defective locks and inform of updated locks.
REPAIR PROCEDURE
1. Remove the seat cushion from the vehicle.
2. Inspect the underside of the seat cushion. If the lock remains attached to the rear seat cushion hooks when the cushion is removed, go to next step.
3. Check the tabs on the sides of the locks.
^ If either of the tabs are broken, replace the lock with a new one (BP4K-57-529A).
^ If the tabs are ok, check the shape of the mounting hole where the lock is fitted into the body and repair as necessary.
4. Install rear seat cushion and verify repair by moderately pulling upon rear seat cushion.
