Repair Procedure

REPAIR PROCEDURE

WARNING:
Before beginning the following repair on vehicles equipped with front seat side airbags, be sure to follow all "Warnings" and "Cautions" in the workshop manual (Section 08 - RESTRAINTS).

NOTE:
Although the Mazda6 is used as the example below, the procedures are basically the same for the other models.

FRONT SEAT CUSHION TRIM REMOVAL (Removal of seat assembly and side cover is necessary):





1. Remove the hook (A) by sliding it in order of (1), (2), and (3).

2. Pull hook (B) and (C) to the direction of the arrow and remove them.





3. Remove the trim and the pad (A) together from the seat frame.





4. Remove C rings in order of (4), (5), (6) and (7).

5. Strip off the trim and remove it from the pad.

FRONT SEAT CUSHION TRIM ATTACHMENT:





1. Fix the trim to the pad with C rings, in order of (1) (2) (3) and (4).

CAUTION:
Be careful not to damage the seat heater (if equipped).





2. Set the trim and the pad (A) together to the frame, smoothing out the wrinkles by hand.





3. Fix the edge of the trim to the hooks on the frame and floor pan.

FRONT SEAT BACK TRIM REMOVAL (Removal of seat assembly is not necessary):





1. Cut off the band (A) and clip (B) which are fixing the harness.





2. Cut off the band (C) which is fixing the side air bag module harness (A).





3. Remove the hook (D) from hook (E) by sliding the hook (D) in order of (1) (2) and (3).





4. Open the fastener (A).

5. Pull the side air bag harness (B) to the direction of (4) and pull it out from the through hole on the trim and the pad (C).

6. Strip off the trim, press the pole guides (D) to the direction of (5) to disengage the clip fixing, and pull them out to the direction of (6).

7. Remove the nut (E).





8. Push the holder bracket (F) into the pad.

CAUTION:
Be careful not to pinch the bracket in the frame spring (G).





9. Pull out the pad (A) to the front.





10. Bring up the trim (A) and the pad (B) together to remove them from the frame (C).

CAUTION:
Be careful not to break the silencer (D) (unwoven noise absorbing cloth).

NOTE:
Leave the silencer on the frame.





11. Strip off the seat back trim (A) from the seat back pad (B).

12. Remove the C rings attached on the front surface in order of (7) (8) and (9).

13. Remove the trim.

FRONT SEAT BACK TRIM ATTACHMENT:





1. Fix the trim to the pad with C rings in order of (1) (2) and (3).





2. Confirm the silencer's attachment position to be put in a hole (A) and to be caught with a spring (B). Adjust as necessary.





3. Install the trim (A) and the pad (B) together to the frame (C).





4. Pass the holder bracket (F) through the pad slit (A).





NOTE:
Set the holder bracket (F) to prevent its sleeve from being pinched in the frame spring.





5. Push out the pad (A) to the rear.





6. Pass the holder bracket (G) through the pad slit (B).

NOTE:
Attach the bracket to prevent its sleeve from being twisted.





7. Install the holder bracket (F) and (G) in order of (4) and (5).

8. Install the nut (H) and torque to 8-12Nm.





9. Install the pole guides (A).

10. Close a fastener (B).





11. Slide the hook (D) in order of (6) (7) and (8), then attach it to the hook (E).

12. Attach the band (C) and fasten the side air bag module harness (B) with it.

NOTE:
Attach the end of the band to the front side.





13. Cut the end of the band to make its length 5mm or less (D) from the binding spot.





14. Attach the clip (B) and the band (A), then fasten the harness with them.
