B. REPAIR PROCEDURE - MAZDA3

NOTE:
^ The Mazda3 center panel module (audio unit) must be removed from the vehicle and the provided MX-5 center panel (face plate) must be installed on the Mazda3 audio unit to enable reflashing of the Mazda3 audio unit.

REFLASH SOFTWARE SET-UP

1. Log on to MS3 at
https://portal.mazdausa.com/prod4/service/esi/MazdaServiceShop

2. Select "View Content" from the navigation bar.

3. On the drop down menu, select "SSP / Recall."





4. When the SSP / Recall page opens, locate "2006-2007 Mazda5, 2006-2007 MX-5, 2006-2007 Mazda3 and 2007 CX-7 Audio Unit - SSP 69." This includes the PDF files for the SSP Instructions as well as the reflash software and any support documentation.





5. Click on ".Mazda3 Reflash Program" to download the reflash program software.

NOTE:
^ The reflash program software for all affected vehicles can also be found under "Mazda Job Aids" located under "Training" from the navigation bar.





6. Click "Save".





7. Save mazda3_reflash.zip to the Desktop.

8. Navigate to the mazda3_reflash.zip file on the Desktop and open it.





9. When the folder opens, click on "Extract all files".





10. The Extraction Wizard window will open. Click "Next" to continue.





11. The extraction wizard will show the path and folder it will create on the desktop for the files. Click "Next" to continue.

12. The extraction wizard will finish allowing you to see the files.





13. Uncheck the "Show Extracted Files" box and click "Finish".

14. Go to VEHICLE PREPARATION procedure.

VEHICLE PREPARATION

1. Turn ignition on.





2. Record customer's radio presets (AM-6, FM-12), including satellite radio (18) on CUSTOMER RADIO STATION PRESETS on the worksheet shown..

3. Turn ignition off.

4. Remove the center panel module. Refer to Workshop Manual section 09-20 CENTER PANEL MODULE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.








5. Remove 3 screws from each side of the center panel module bracket attaching the center panel to the audio unit.

NOTE:
^ The information display will remain attached to the center panel bracket - do not remove the bolts attaching the information display to the bracket.

6. Remove the center panel, information display and bracket from the audio unit as an assembly.

7. Install the MX-5 center panel and bracket to the Mazda3 audio unit, using at least 1 bolt on each side to attach it together.

8. Remove the audio control knobs on the face plate if necessary to access the reflashing ports.

9. Go to REFLASHING AUDIO UNIT procedure below.

REFLASHING AUDIO UNIT





NOTE:
^ The Mazda3 center panel (face plate) has been replaced with the provided MX-5 face plate (SR69-AKS-FCPLT) to enable reflashing of the Mazda3 audio unit.

NOTE:
^ Complete kit SR69-AKS-KIT includes flashing device, audio cable, faceplate (for Mazda3 flashing) and SSP instructions (serial and USB cables are part of the flashing device).

^ Replacement audio cables (SR69-AKS-CABLE), replacement MX-5 face plates (SR69-AKS-FCPLT) and replacement flashing devices (SR69-AKS-DVCE) includes audio cable (SR69-AKS-CABLE) can be ordered separately if necessary from M-Store.





1. Connect the flashing device cables to the reflashing ports on the installed MX-5 faceplate as shown. Connect J302 first, then J301 in this order.








2. Connect 9-pin serial data cable and USB cable from flashing device to ports located on rear of computer (Dell Latitude 610 laptop shown, others similar).





3. Navigate to and open the "mazda3_reflash" folder on the desktop containing the reflash program.

4. Double-click on Flashsta.exe to run the reflash program.





5. The "Select Program" window will be displayed.

NOTE:
Ensure "Internal flash memory" is selected.

6. Click "OK" on the "Select Program" window.





NOTE:
COM1 is the default port. If a "Communication Error" window pops up after clicking "OK", select another port from the drop down menu and click "OK" until the correct port is identified and the programs runs.

^ If you continue to get a "Communication Error" message after trying all ports, click "X" on the upper right corner of the window to terminate the flash program. Connector J302 and J301 may be reversed in the reflashing ports on the audio unit. Verify these connectors are in the proper ports identified in STEP 1. If the connectors are in the correct ports, ensue the connections are secure. Restart the reflashing procedure at STEP 4.





^ If you get a "Timeout" message, click "X" on the upper right corner of the window to terminate the flash program and restart from the STEP 1.

^ Make sure to connect J302 first, then J301 to audio unit in this order before connecting the serial and USB cables to the laptop. Also ensure the connections are secure.





7. After the "Select Program" window, the "ID Check" window will be displayed.





8. Click "Refer" and then specify the software program file for rewriting according to the table. Refer is similar to the "Browse" function in most programs. This will enable you to search for the correct files for the program. These files will be located in the mazda3_reflash folder located in the same folder the reflash program (Flashsta.exe) is located on the desktop. Identify the files with ".mot" extension (MOT file type).





9. Double-click on the correct .mot file for the vehicle/old version. This will populate the "FilePath" entry in the "ID Check" window.





10. Make sure the FilePath (file name) and ID are correct. All fields of "ID" must be "00." If any field of ID is not "00," enter"00" manually.

11. After entering all the information as specified, click "OK" on the "ID Check" window. The "M16C Flash Start"window will be displayed.





12. Click the "Setting" button in the "M16C Flash Start"window. The "Set Baudrate" window will be displayed.





13. If the Baud rate is not "57600," select "57600" from the pull down menu, then click "OK."





14. Click the "E.P.R (Erase/Program/Recheck)" button in the "M16C Flash Start" window. The "Erase" window will be displayed.





15. Click "OK" on the "Erase" window. It will take about 3 to 4 minutes to totally rewrite the software. The "Program" and "Read Check" windows will be displayed during this process.





16. When the "M16C Flash Start - Program OK" window is displayed, the rewriting is successful.

17. Click "OK" on the "M16C Flash Start - Program OK" window then "Exit" on the "M16C Flash Start" window to terminate the reflash program.

18. Disconnect the flashing device cables (J301 and J302) from the audio system. Disconnect the serial and USB cables from the PC.

FINAL CHECK

1. Remove the installed center panel. Install the original Mazda3 center panel to the audio unit.

2. Install the center panel module to the vehicle. Refer to Workshop Manual section 09-20 CENTER PANEL MODULE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION

3. Turn the ignition switch ON.

4. Ensure the audio system is off.

5. Verify the correct software version is loaded. Press and hold the MEDIA, Preset # 5, and Preset # 6 buttons simultaneously. The information/radio display will show the software version.

6. Turn the audio system on.

7. Enter the customer's radio presets, including the satellite radio (if equipped). Set the customer's clock. Verify operation of the radio.

8. Proceed to "F. CAMPAIGN LABEL INSTALLATION".
