WHISTLING OR WIND NOISE FROM OUTER MIRROR

APPLICABLE MODEL(S)/VINs
^ 2006-2007 Mazda5 vehicles with VINs lower than JM1 CR**** ** 155672 (produced before April 1, 2007)

^ 2007 CX-7 vehicles with VINs lower than JM3 ER**** ** 166945 (produced before April 1, 2007)

^ 2007 CX-9 vehicles with VINs lower than JM3 TB**** ** 117348 (produced before April 1, 2007)

DESCRIPTION

Some customers may complain about a whistling or wind noise from the outer mirrors when driving around 37 mph (60 km/h). A whistling noise is caused by an opening in the garnish-fitted hole under the mirror. On CX-7 only, a wind noise can also be caused by a gap in the harness-fitted rib groove on the outer mirror base.

Customers having this concern should have their vehicle repaired using the following repair procedure.

REPAIR PROCEDURE

1. Verify concern.

2. Cut the felt pad (thickness = 0.25 mm) into a 8 mm x 15 mm piece for one side of vehicle repair.

3. Fold the outer mirror towards the vehicle.





4. Attach the felt pad (0.25 mm x 8 mm x 15 mm) over the hole as shown.

5. Verify repair. If there is still a noise on CX-7, proceed to step 6.

6. Remove the outer mirror according to MS3 online instructions or Workshop Manual section 09-12 POWER OUTER MIRROR REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.





7. Pull up on the packing sponge from the lower part of the mirror base, then remove the rubber from the base.

NOTE:
Carefully handle the packing sponge so that it does not break.

8. Cut the urethane pad with rough surface (thickness = 5 mm) into a 15 mm x 20 mm piece for one side of vehicle repair.





9. Determine the location where the urethane pad will be attached - clearance in the rib groove on the mirror base.





10. Close the clearance and build up the area by attaching the urethane pad (5 mm x 15 mm x 20 mm) as shown.

11. Install the outer mirror according to MS3 online instructions or Workshop Manual section 09-12 POWER OUTER MIRROR REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.

12. Verify repair.
