Interior - Front Seat Head Rest Rattling Noises

RATTLING OR CHATTERING NOISE FROM HEADREST

DESCRIPTION
Some vehicles may exhibit a rattling or chattering noise coming from the front seat headrests.
Customers having these concerns should have their vehicle repaired using the following repair procedure.
REPAIR PROCEDURE
1. Verify customer complaint.
2. Remove the headrest.
3. Widen guide pins (A) outward by 4 mm by hand.
4. Move one guide pin forward and the other rearward until difference between left and right guide pins is 4 mm.
5. Reinstall the headrest and confirm if noise is still present or not.
- If noise is gone, return vehicle to customer or dealer inventory.
- If noise is still present, proceed to next step.
6. Attach vinyl tape to both pole guide bases (B) according the steps a-d.
a. Remove headrest.
b. Remove the seat trim and seat back pad according to 2010 Mazda3 MS3 online instructions or Workshop Manual (section 09-13 FRONT SEAT BACK TRIM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION).
c. Placing your hands on the trim, pull the pole guide (A) upward to remove while pushing hooks on both left and right sides.
Note:
Seat back pad and trim shown above are removed for illustration purposes.
d. Attach a small piece of vinyl tape (A) to left and right pole guide bases.
7. Reinstall the pole guides.
8. Reinstall the seat back pad and seat trim according to 2010 Mazda3 MS3 online instructions or Workshop Manual (section 09-13 FRONT SEAT BACK TRIM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION).
9. Reinstall the headrest.
10. Verify repair.
