A/C - Mode Switch Won't Go Into Recirculation Mode

AIR INTAKE SELECTOR MODE SWITCH FAILURE
APPLICABLE MODEL(S)/VINS
2003 - 2006 Mazda6 vehicles equipped with Manual Air Conditioning System
DESCRIPTION
Some vehicles may experience an air selector mode switch that will not switch into recirculation mode.
This condition may be cause by a lack of continuity in the mode switch.
Customers having this concern should have their vehicle repaired using the following repair procedure.
REPAIR PROCEDURE
1. Verify customer concern.
2. Record customer's pre-set radio stations.
3. Disconnect negative battery cable.
4. Remove climate control unit assembly according to Workshop manual (section 07-40 [] CLIMATE CONTROL UNIT DISASSEMBLY/ASSEMBLY L3, AJ).
5. Replace mode switch with a modified part.
6. Reinstall climate control unit assembly.
7. Reconnect negative battery cable.
8. Re-enter customer's pre-set radio stations.
9. FOR 2006 MODELS ONLY: Perform "Power Window Initialization Procedure".
10. Verify repair.
POWER WINDOW INITIALIZATION PROCEDURE
1. Turn ignition to ON position.
2. From driver's seat ensure window lockout switch is NOT depressed.
3. Press window switch down to fully open door window.
4. Pull window switch up to fully close door window; hold switch up for two (2) seconds; release switch.
5. Move to front passenger seat and repeat Steps 3 - 4 on passenger window switch.
6. Verify proper window operation using each door switch.
