Engine Controls - Incorrect Mode 6 O2 Sensor Values

TSB: 01-037/07

2006-2007 MX-5 MODE 06 MONITOR TEST VALUE OF OXYGEN SENSOR OUTPUT - IMPROPER READINGS

APPLICABLE MODEL(S)/VINS
2006-2007 MX-5

DESCRIPTION

The monitor test value of oxygen sensor output (Mode6 On-Board Test Results) displays incorrect readings.

Example

The current PCM software uses incorrect unit (millivolt) for readings. The correct unit is volt. As a mass-production change, the 2008 model MX-5 PCM software will be corrected from displaying millivolt to correctly display volt.

No field countermeasure is planed. The vehicles diagnostic function operates properly and there is no impact on exhaust emission and/or driveability if this condition is present. This is for your information only and will not be changed when PCM is reprogrammed.

NOTE:
^ 2007 MX-5 Workshop Manual uses "Diagnostic Monitoring Test" instead of the word of "Mode6". For your reference, access procedure with Mazda Modular Diagnosis System (M-MDS) is as follows:

1. Establish communication between M-MDS and PCM in vehicle.

2. Select "TOOLBOX".

3. Select "POWERTRAIN".

4. Select "OBD TEST MODES".

5. Select "MODE 6 ON-BOARD TEST RESULTS".

6. Verify the diagnostic monitoring test results display according to the screen direction.
