Last Issued: 05/13/2008

Subject:
DOOR OR TRUNK LID REQUEST SWITCH INOPERATIVE DUE TO FAILED ADVANCED KEYLESS ANTENNA - DTC B1131

BULLETIN NOTE:
This bulletin supersedes the previous bulletin 09-024/07 issued 07/05/07. The DESCRIPTION and REPAIR PROCEDURE have been revised.

APPLICABLE MODEL(S)/VINs
2006 - 2007 Mazdaspeed6 vehicles with VINs lower than JM1GG****7*109660 (produced before April 1, 2007) equipped with Advanced Keyless System

DESCRIPTION

Some vehicles may experience intermittent or inoperative driver/passenger door or trunk request switch operation. This condition may be the result of water/salt entering the exterior rear antenna through the lead wires causing poor conductivity.

The antenna has been improved to prevent this concern by added silicone sealant to the lead wires where they enter the antenna body.

Customers with this concern should have their vehicle repaired using the following repair procedure.

REPAIR PROCEDURE

1. Verify customer concern.

2. Using M-MDS (Mazda Modular Diagnostic System), monitor trunk lid request switch PID (REQ_SW_BK), drivers door request switch PID (REQ_SW_DK) and passenger door request switch PID (REQ_SW_PK) and check for the presents of any DTC's.

- If DTC B1131 (keyless antenna - exterior, rear) is present, replace the keyless antenna (exterior, rear) according to Workshop Manual (section 09-14 KEYLESS ANTENNA REMOVAL/INSTALLATION).

- If trunk lid request switch PID does not change from On/Off when pressing and releasing the request switch, and no DTC's are present, refer to Service Bulletin 09-016/08 (Trunk Lid Request Switch Inoperative - No DTCs).

- If trunk lid request switch PID does change from On/Off when pressing and releasing the request switch, (whether other DTC's are present or not), refer to the Workshop Manual for further diagnostics related to the advanced keyless entry system.

- If driver or passenger door request switch PIDs do not change from On/Off when pressing and releasing the request switch, (whether other DTC's are present or not), refer to the Workshop Manual for further diagnostics related to the advanced keyless entry system.

3. If negative battery cable was disconnected during repair, proceed to "Power Window Initialization Procedure" to restore "anti-pinch" and "auto open/close" window features before returning vehicle to customer or dealer inventory.

4. Verify repair.

POWER WINDOW INITIALIZATION PROCEDURE

1. Turn ignition to ON position.

2. From driver's seat ensure window lockout switch is NOT depressed.

3. Press window switch down to fully open door window.

4. Pull window switch up to fully close door window; hold switch up for two (2) seconds; release switch.

5. Move to front passenger seat and repeat Steps 3 - 4 on passenger window switch.

6. Move to rear seat and repeat Steps 3 - 4 on both rear window switches.

7. Verify proper window operation using each door switch.
