TRUNK LID REQUEST SWITCH INOPERATIVE - NO DTCs

BULLETIN NOTE:
This bulletin supersedes the previous bulletin 09-023/07 issued 07/05/07. The REPAIR PROCEDURE has been revised.

DESCRIPTION

Some vehicles may experience an intermittent or inoperative trunk request switch operation, with no problems with the driver and/or passenger door handle request switches. This condition may be the result of water/salt entering the trunk lid request switch through the lead wires.

The request switch has been improved to prevent this concern by changing the sealing surface of the lead wires from a clear epoxy to a black urethane.

Customers having this concern should have their vehicle repaired using the following repair procedure.

REPAIR PROCEDURE

1. Verify customer concern.

2. Using M-MDS (Mazda Modular Diagnostic System), monitor the trunk lid request switch PID (REQ_SW_BK) and check for the presents of any DTC's.

- If trunk lid request switch PID does not change from On/Off when pressing and releasing the request switch, and no DTC's are present, replace the trunk lid request switch according to Workshop Manual (section 09-14 REQUEST SWITCH REMOVAL/INSTALLATION).

- If trunk lid request switch PID does change from On/Off when pressing and releasing the request switch, (whether DTC's are present or not), refer to the Workshop Manual for further diagnostics related to the advanced keyless entry system.

- If DTC B1131 (keyless antenna - exterior, rear) is present, refer to Service Bulletin 09-015/08 (Door Or Trunk Lid Request Switch Inoperative Due To Failed Advanced Keyless Antenna - DTC B1131).

3. If negative battery cable was disconnected during repair, proceed to "Power Window Initialization Procedure" to restore "anti-pinch" and "auto open/close" window features before returning vehicle to customer or dealer inventory.

4. Verify repair.

POWER WINDOW INITIALIZATION PROCEDURE

1. Turn ignition to ON position.

2. From driver's seat ensure window lockout switch is NOT depressed.

3. Press window switch down to fully open door window.

4. Pull window switch up to fully close door window; hold switch up for two (2) seconds; release switch.

5. Move to front passenger seat and repeat Steps 3 - 4 on passenger window switch.

6. Move to rear seat and repeat Steps 3 - 4 on both rear window switches.

7. Verify proper window operation using each door switch.
