DESCRIPTION

Some vehicles may experience a MIL illumination with DTC P0300 (Random Misfire Detection) or DTCS P0301- P0304 (Cylinder No. Misfire Detection) stored in memory during repeated short distance driving. Carbon deposits may accumulate on the spark plugs, which may cause plug fouling. This condition may also cause a rough idle condition.

REPAIR PROCEDURE

When this concern is encountered during repeated short distance driving, burn off the carbon by performing a no-load racing of the engine according to the following:

NOTE:
To avoid damaging the spark plugs, DO NOT use a wire brush for cleaning.

1. Verify concern.

2. Apply parking brake and foot brake.

3. Shift transmission into Neutral.

4. Perform no-load racing at 4,000 RPM for 2 minutes.

5. Idle engine for 1 minute; ensure engine is not overheating.

6. Repeat no-load racing at 4,000 RPM for 2 more minutes.

7. Erase DTCs according to Workshop Manual.

8. Verify repair.
