Engine - Rattle/Chatter Noise At Idle
Bulletin No: 01-043/10Last Issued: 07/27/2010
Subject:
RATTLE / CHATTER NOISE FROM INTAKE MANIFOLD
APPLICABLE MODEL(S)/VINS
2004-2007 RX-8 vehicles with VINS lower than JM1FE******213322 (produced before April 18, 2007)
DESCRIPTION
Some vehicles may exhibit a rattle / chatter noise from the intake manifold at idle. Due to accumulated carbon on the secondary shutter valve (SSV), the clearance between the intake manifold and the SSV is narrowed causing intake air pulsation to easily transfer to the SSV, and a noise results. To correct the problem, the SSV actuator has been changed.
Customers having this concern should have their vehicle repaired using the following repair procedure.
