WATER IN COMBINATION LIGHT - IMPROPER SATELLITE RADIO ANTENNA CABLE ROUTING

DESCRIPTION

During installation of the SAT audio accessory, special attention is required when routing the antenna harness through the combination light opening in the vehicle body, and proper placement of pad protectors / butyl tape. Improper routing / placement of protector pads / butyl tape may result in water / condensation inside the combination light. Please refer to the following diagrams for proper antenna cable routing.

REPAIR PROCEDURE

NOTE:
^ Re-routing of antenna cable, labor for drying combination lights and/or replacement of combination lights due to water entry / condensation as a result of improper antenna cable routing are not warrantable repairs.

1. Verify customer concern.

2. On RX-8 vehicles, remove the Left rear combination light. On Mazda6 vehicles, remove the Right rear combination light.

- 2009 RX-8 - Refer to MS3 repair information or Workshop Manual section 09-18 - REAR COMBINATION LIGHT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.

- 2009 Mazda6 - Refer to MS3 repair information or Workshop Manual section 09-18

3. Verify proper routing of the SAT radio antenna wiring using the diagrams shown above.

NOTE:
^ Accessory SAT installation instructions contain the same routing diagrams.

^ The Seaming Welt is also known as the Trunk Seal.

4. Re-route the SAT radio antenna cable as necessary.

5. Remove back-up light, stop/tail light and rear turn light bulbs and sockets and bulbs from rear combination light assembly.

CAUTION:
IF A HEAT GUN OR HAIRDRYER IS USED, DO NOT USE HEAT SETTING. USE COOL AIR SETTING ONLY. THE PLASTIC MAY BE DAMAGED IF HEAT IS USED.

6. Dry inside of rear combination light assembly for 10 minutes using a hair dryer, heat gun, compressed air or equivalent.

7. Check the condition of the combination light lens after 10 minutes of drying.

- If the lens is clear of moisture, haziness and no dry water spotting is visible, re-install the combination light assembly.

- If moisture, haziness or dry water spotting remains on lens, replace rear combination light assembly.

8. Before installing rear combination light to vehicle, clean vehicles body where the combination light gasket makes contact.

9. Verify repair.
