TSB: 09-006/072006-2007 MX-5 - GAP APPEARS IN HARD PLASTIC DOOR TRIM PANELS
APPLICABLE MODEL(S)/VINS
2006-2007 MX-5 with VINs JM1 NC**** ** 115173 to 127945 (built from March 1, 2006 to September 7, 2006)
DESCRIPTION
On some vehicles with plastic door trim (panels) only, a gap may appear in the location as indicated in illustration shown.
NOTE:
^ This symptom does not occur on vehicles equipped with leather door panels.
During hot ambient temperatures, the foam pad attached to the door lock cable pushes the door panel out, causing a gap. As a mass-production change, the shape of the pad attached to the door lock cable has been modified. Customers having this concern should have their vehicle repaired using the following repair procedure.
REPAIR PROCEDURE
1. Verify customer concern.
2. Remove the door panel. Refer to Workshop Manual section 09-17 DOOR TRIM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.
NOTE:
^ Since the door panel is deformed, it cannot be reused.
3. Trim the existing door lock cable foam pad as illustrated.
NOTE:
^ Trim foam approximately 1-1/2" (38 mm) x 1/2" (13 mm) inwards from each end until the finished product resembles the image shown above.
4. Install a new door panel in the vehicle.
5. Confirm operation of disconnected components (power windows, manual/power door locks, door opening using inner door handle).
6. Verify repair.
