2007 MX-5 - POWER RETRACTABLE HARDTOP - FRONT ROOF PANEL CONTACTS DECK PANEL

DESCRIPTION





On some power retractable hard top vehicles, the front panel (1) of the hard top may contact with the deck panel (2) when in the open position. This condition may be the result of improper engagement of the roof hook, due to the roof hook cable coming loose from the cable case.

Inspect the roof hook cable for disengagement from the cable case; this case is located behind the access panel, behind the driver's seat. If it is found to be disengaged, replaced the cable case using the following procedures.

REPAIR PROCEDURE

1. Verify customer concern.

2. Fold and slide the driver seat forward as far as possible.

3. Using a plastic windshield setting tool or equivalent, pry the top of the access panel away to disengage the clips and remove the panel.

NOTE:
^ Plastic Windshield Setting Tool (Part Number 1S742 - available from Equalizer at 800-334-1334) or similar available through a local supplier.

^ If a flat-tipped screwdriver is to be used, wrap the tip in tape to prevent damage to the trim panels.





4. Fold the cover up and out of the way to access the cable case and cable ends.





5. Using a flat-tipped screwdriver, carefully pry the cable case apart at the clips to access the cable ends.





6. Remove the cable ends from the barrel connector (B) and remove the cable housings (A) from the cable case.





7. Remove the cable case (A) from the vehicle and replace with a modified one.








8. Place the cable ends into the barrel connector and the cable housings (B) into the cable case and snap the cable case closed. Ensure the cable housing ends (C) line up with the cable case (A).

9. To complete installation reverse removal procedure.

10. Verify repair.
