Ignition Timing: Testing and Inspection

Ignition Timing Inspection

Caution:
^ Do not change the crankshaft position sensor installation position. Changing the CKP sensor installation location while attempting to adjust the ignition timing could cause an engine malfunction.

Note:
^ The ignition timing cannot be adjusted.
^ The SST (M-MDS) is required to verify the ignition timing.

1. Warm up the engine.
(1) Turn off all electrical loads.
(2) Increase the engine speed to 2,500 - 3,000 rpm until the cooling fan starts running.
(3) When the cooling fan starts running, release the accelerator pedal and wait until the cooling fan stops running.

2. Connect the SST (M-MDS) to the DLC-2.
3. Verify the ignition timing (M-MDS: SPARKADV) using the PID/data monitor function of the SST (M-MDS).

4. Gradually raise the engine speed and verify that the ignition timing advances.
