Steering Angle Sensor - Self-Test Shows 'FAIL'

TSB: 01-039/06

RX-8 (WITH DSC) - MAZDA MODULAR DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM (M-MDS) STEERING WHEEL ANGLE SENSOR MODULE SELF TEST SHOWS "FAIL"

APPLICABLE MODEL(S)/VINS

2004-2007 RX-8 with Dynamic Stability Control (DSC)

DESCRIPTION

When M-MDS performs a self test from All CMDTCs or Module - SASM using DVD released on 2006.7 (B44), it always displays Fail on SASM and does not display DTCs. The cause of this is an IDS/PDS software problem. This problem will be eliminated when 2006.9 B45 DVD software is loaded, which will be sent out in mid-September.

FIELD PROCEDURE

Please ignore self test results on SASM. There are only two DTCs for SASM, U2516 and U1900. Since the DSC module also detects the DTCs for SASM (U2516 and U1900), you can fix SASM-related failures according to DSC diagnosis.

For your information, you can make sure the SASM and its harness are working correctly or not using SWA_POS' PID in the DSC module Datalogger. If the value of SWA_POS' changes when the steering wheel is turned left or right, the SASM and its harness are working correctly.
