Keyless Entry - Tunk Request Switch is Inoperative

2006-2007 RX-8 - TRUNK REQUEST SWITCH INOPERATIVE

APPLICABLE MODEL(S)/VINS
2006-2007 RX-8 vehicles equipped with Advanced Keyless System with VINs below JM1 FE**** ** 212388 (built before February 1, 2007)

DESCRIPTION

Some vehicles may experience intermittent operation of the trunk lid request switch. Driver and passenger door request switches operate properly.





Water may enter the switch, damaging the terminals and cause a malfunction. The switch design has been changed to prevent water damage.

Customers having this concern should have their vehicle repaired using the following repair procedure.

REPAIR PROCEDURE

1. Verify customer concern.

2. Replace trunk lid request switch.

NOTE:
^ Record customers radio station presets before disconnecting battery.

a. Disconnect negative battery cable.

b. Remove the rear bumper. Refer to Workshop Manual section 09-10 - REAR BUMPER REMOVAL / INSTALLATION.





c. Detach request switch from the rear bumper by squeezing the tabs inward.

d. Install in reverse order of removal.

3. Perform steering angle initialization procedure. See Workshop Manual section 04-15 - STEERING ANGLE SENSOR INITIALIZATION PROCEDURE.

4. Input customers radio station presets.

5. Verify repair.
