1. Verify customer concern.

2. Turn the ignition to ACC position.





3. After turning the audio unit on using Power ON (A), push and hold the AUDIO CONT button (B), then press the Preset 1 button (C) as shown in the sample. This procedure is the same for all applicable models to confirm software version.

NOTE:
RX-8 is shown; other models are different.





4. Confirm the software version is indicated in the display, and write it down. Then refer to the table above to see if the software version of the concerned audio unit is before or after the reprogramming. If it is not updated, then perform the reprogramming according to the following procedures for the specific vehicle model.

5. Remove the knob(s) and connect the Audio Unit Software Programming Tool connectors (P/N 1479-06-99) to the audio unit.

NOTE:
The connection procedure varies depending on model.





a. Remove the knob(s) using a firm grip or by using tape as shown. DO NOT USE PLIERS.

NOTE:
Be careful to avoid scratching the audio panel.





b. Connect the Audio Unit Software Programming Tool connectors (A) to the removed knob(s). Follow each vehicle's instructions per each model below.

IMPORTANT:
The software version must be displayed before the tool is connected to the audio unit.

NOTE:
^ After the Audio Unit Software Programming Tool is connected, the audio unit display will go blank.





^ It is not necessary to connect the Audio Unit Software Programming Tool to the accessory socket or cigarette lighter using the plug (B). The tool receives power form the audio unit through the blue and red wires.

RX-8 is shown; other models are different.

6. Perform the audio reprogramming.





NOTE:
^ The power switch on the Audio Unit Software Programming Tool (A) can be either in the on or off position. The tool receives power from the audio unit through the blue and red wires.

a. Refer to Table 1 and set the software number (B) according to the table by operating the UP (C) /DOWN (D) buttons.

b. Make sure the power lamp (E) comes on, then press the START button (F). The Pass Lamp (G) comes on 2 or 3 minutes after the Writing Lamp (H) comes on.

c. Reprogramming is complete when the Writing Lamp goes off.

NOTE:
If the Error Lamp (I) comes on, there was a problem with the reprogramming. Check the following:

- Connection tightness

- Audio Unit Software Programming Tool connectors switched

- Correct software version

- Software version was displayed before connecting Audio Unit Software Programming Tool to the audio unit

- Vehicle is within applicable VIN/production range

7. Disconnect the Audio Unit Software Programming Tool connectors.

8. Confirm "HELLO" or "BOSE SOUND" is displayed, then the audio unit turns off.

9. Turn the audio unit on using Power ON, push and hold the AUDIO CONT button, then press the Preset 1 button to confirm software version is correct. If not, perform the audio unit reprogramming again from step 4.

10. Reinstall the removed knobs.

11. Verify repair by checking all the radio functions. If improper operation is found, go back to step 4 and reprogram the audio unit with the correct software version.
