GRINDING NOISE WHEN SHIFTING INTO 3RD GEAR

APPLICABLE MODEL(S)/VINS
2004-2008 Mazda3 (with 5-speed MT) with VINS lower than JM1 BK3*****158633 (produced before May 6, 2008)

DESCRIPTION

Some customers may complain that 3rd gear makes a grinding noise and/or jumps out of gear while driving. This is from driving with a heavy load and/or quick shift operation causing the 3rd gear, synchronizer ring, and clutch hub sleeve to wear out. The synchronizer ring, synchronizer key springs, and clutch sleeve have now been changed.

When you encounter a customer complaint with this concern, replace the following parts with the ones listed in the PARTS INFORMATION following the instructions in the G34M-R Workshop Manual.

NOTE:
Replace the related parts indicated as REPLACE PARTS in the Workshop Manual.





1: 3RD GEAR
2: SYNCHRONIZER RING
3: SYNCHRONIZER KEY SPRING
4: CLUTCH HUB SLEEVE
