Exhaust System: Service and Repair




EXHAUST SYSTEM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [LF, L3]

WARNING:
- A hot engine and exhaust system can cause severe burns. Turn off the engine and wait until they are cool before removing the exhaust system.

1. Remove the plug hole plate. Service and Repair

2. Remove the battery cover and battery duct. Removal and Replacement

3. Disconnect the negative battery cable.

4. Remove the under cover.

5. Remove in the order indicated in the table.

6. Install in the reverse order of removal.

7. Inspect the wheel alignment and adjust it if necessary. Front Wheel Alignment Rear Wheel Alignment

Main Silencer Removal Note

Except for California emission regulation applicable model

1. Disconnect the ABS wheel-speed sensor wiring harness connector.

2. Disengage the brake pipe mount from bracket.






3. Remove the rear shock absorber lower bolts. Removal and Replacement

4. Loosen the rear crossmember component installation bolts (6 locations) and lower the rear crossmember component approx. 70 mm {2.8 in}. Service and Repair

5. Remove the main silencer.

1. Remove the rear wheels and tires.

2. Disconnect the ABS wheel-speed sensor wiring harness connector.

3. Disengage the brake pipe mount from bracket.






4. Remove the caliper component installation bolts, remove the parking brake cable from the caliper, and then set the caliper out of the way. Rear Brake (Disc) Removal/Installation

5. Remove the rear shock absorber lower bolts. Removal and Replacement

6. Remove the rear trailing link installation bolts (4 locations). Service and Repair

7. Remove the rear crossmember component installation bolts (6 locations) and lower the rear crossmember component. Service and Repair

8. Remove the main silencer.

Exhaust Manifold Removal Note

CAUTION:
- Over bending of the exhaust flexible pipe may cause damage resulting in failure.

1. Remove the front wheels and tires.

2. Disconnect the steering shaft from the steering gear and linkage side. Service and Repair

3. Remove the No.1 engine mount rubber. Removal and Replacement

4. Loosen the exhaust manifold bolts.

5. Remove the installation bolts of the front stabilizer and stabilizer control link. Front Stabilizer Removal/Installation

6. Loosen the front crossmember component installation bolts and lower the front crossmember component approx. 100 mm {3.94 in}. Service and Repair

7. Support the flexible pipe with a support wrap or splint as shown in the figure.






8. Remove the exhaust manifold by lowering it to the underside of the vehicle.

Exhaust Manifold Installation Note

1. Tighten the exhaust manifold installation nuts in the order shown in the figure.






Tightening torque
- 43-64 Nm {4.4-6.5 kgf-m, 32-47 ft-lbf}
