Rear Window Glass Removal
REAR WINDOW GLASS REMOVAL
4 Door
1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Remove the following parts:
a. Rear seat Rear Seat Removal/Installation
b. Rear scuff plate Rear Scuff Plate Removal/Installation
c. Tire house trim Tire House Trim Removal/Installation
d. C-pillar trim C-Pillar Trim Removal/Installation
e. Rear package trim Service and Repair
3. Disconnect the filament connector.
4. Set the headliner out of the way.
5. Apply protective tape along the edge of the body.
6. Cut the rear window glass molding lip using a razor.
WARNING:
- Using a razor with bare hands can cause injury. Always wear gloves when using a razor.
NOTE:
- The rear window glass molding is a replacement part.
Not Reusing Rear Window Glass
NOTE:
- For the areas of the sealant that are difficult to cut, use the piano wire and follow the procedure under "Reusing Rear Window Glass".
1. Cut out the sealant all around the glass using a sealant remover.
2. Remove the sealant by pulling it off.
3. Remove the rear window glass.
Reusing Rear Window Glass
NOTE:
- Before removing the rear window glass from the body, mark the position of the glass by affixing tape to the glass and body panel.
1. Make a hole through the sealant from the inside of the vehicle using an awl, avoiding the pins.
2. Pass the piano wire, cut to sufficient length, through the hole.
WARNING:
- Using the piano wire with bare hands can cause injury. Always wear gloves when using the piano wire.
3. Wind each end of the piano wire around a bar.
NOTE:
- Use a long sawing action to spread the work over the whole length of the piano wire to prevent it from breaking due to localized heating.
4. Fix one end of the piano wire, and while pulling the other end, cut the sealant around the rear window glass.
NOTE:
- As the upper part of the pin adheres to the sealant, cut it using the piano wire.
5. Cut the pins out.
6. Remove the rear window glass.
7. Mark the seating positions of the pins and remove the pins from the rear window glass.
8. Remove the rear window glass molding from the rear window glass.
5 Door
1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Remove the following parts:
a. Liftgate upper trim
b. Liftgate side trim
c. Liftgate lower trim
d. High-mount brake light Service and Repair
e. Rear wiper arm and blade Windshield Wiper Arm And Blade Removal/Installation
f. Rear wiper motor Rear Wiper Motor Removal/Installation
g. Rear spoiler Rear Spoiler Removal/Installation
3. Disconnect the filament connector.
4. Apply protective tape along the edge of the body.
5. Mark the position of the glass by affixing tape to the glass and body panel.
6. Make a hole through the sealant from the inside of the vehicle using an awl, avoiding the pins.
7. Pass the piano wire, cut to sufficient length, through the hole.
