OIL LEAK BETWEEN ENGINE AND AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION

DESCRIPTION





During Pre-Delivery Inspection (PDI), an oil leak may be found under fitting surface (A) between engine and bell housing of the automatic transaxle. The concern may be incorrectly diagnosed as an automatic transaxle or engine oil leak. A new repair procedure has been developed to correct this concern.

Anti-rust coating is applied to the torque converter outside surface. Some of the coating may run down to the fitting surface between engine and bell housing of the automatic transaxle. This has no affect on vehicle safety or reliability.

Customers having this concern should have their vehicle repaired using the following repair procedure.

REPAIR PROCEDURE

1. Verify customer concern.

2. Turn engine off.

3. Determine oil leak type.

A. Torque Converter anti-rust coating - Clear color - Proceed to step 4.

B. Engine oil - Dark color - This bulletin does not apply, proceed with normal Workshop Manual diagnosis.

C. Automatic Transaxle fluid - Red color - This bulletin does not apply, proceed with normal Workshop Manual diagnosis.





4. Use shop rag to clean extra anti-rust coating under fitting surface between engine and bell housing of the automatic transaxle.

5. Wrap finger with shop rag and insert wrapped finger into bell housing service hole and clean excess coating inside of the bell housing.

CAUTION:
Engine must be off.

6. Verify repair.
