Interior - Seat Heater Won't Warm Up Completely
Bulletin No: 09-044/10Last Issued: 10/15/2010
SUBJECT:
SEAT HEATER DOES NOT WARM UP COMPLETELY
APPLICABLE MODEL(S)/VINS
2006-2010 Mazda5
DESCRIPTION
Some customers may complain that when the seat heater (A) is activated, the seat heater warms up initially, but then it does not completely warm up and feels like the temperature gradually drops. This is caused by characteristics of the seat heater. Because the on-off cycle of the seat heater thermostat is relatively long, it may feel like the temperature is dropping after the temperature rises moderately and the seat heater turns off. The problem is being corrected by replacing the seat cushion warmer with a modified one.
Customers having this concern should have their vehicle repaired using the following repair procedure.
REPAIR PROCEDURE
1. Verify customer concern.
2. Remove the front seats from the vehicle. Refer to MS3 online instructions or Workshop manual section 09-13 FRONT SEAT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.
3. Remove the seat cushion frame and pad from the slide adjusters.
NOTE:
There is no need to remove the side covers from the seat.
a. Remove the seat weight sensor control module (A - passenger's seat only).
b. Remove the two zip ties for the seat weight sensor wiring from the seat cushion frame (B - passenger's seat only).
c. Disconnect the seat heater connector (C).
d. Remove the wires from the other zip tie on the seat cushion frame (D).
e. Remove the small connectors (E - yellow, F - green, G - gray) from the large main connector.
f. Remove the four bolts securing the seat cushion frame to the slide adjusters.
NOTE:
The wires for the seatback will need to be pulled through the hole in the seat cushion trim.
4. Remove the 15 "hog rings" to remove the seat trim from the seat.
5. Peel off and remove the seat cushion warmer from the seat cushion pad and then discard it.
NOTE:
Be careful not to damage the pad while removing the warmer. If needed, apply warm air with a hair dryer or heat gun to help remove the warmer if it is sticking to the pad.
6. Attach the improved seat cushion warmer (A) to the pad, making note of the dent for the thermostat installation (B) and the dent for the harness installation (C).
NOTE:
^ Attach the warmer in the center of the pad so that it does not stick out into the grooves.
^ Do not allow any folds or wrinkles on the warmer.
g. Insert the bridge portion of the warmer (A) to the bottom of the groove. DO NOT place the bridge of the warmer over the hog ring fixing points.
7. Install in the reverse order of removal.
NOTE:
Make sure the seat cushion trim does not get wrinkled during the installation.
8. Verify repair.
