Removal and Replacement
ENGINE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [L3]
WARNING:
- Fuel vapor is hazardous. It can very easily ignite, causing serious injury and damage. Always keep sparks and flames away from fuel.
- Fuel line spills and leakage are dangerous. Fuel can ignite and cause serious injuries or death and damage. Fuel can also irritate skin and eyes. To prevent this, always complete the "Fuel Line Safety Procedure". Service Precautions
NOTE:
- Perform the engine and transaxle component removal/installation from below the vehicle.
1. Remove the plug hole plate. Service and Repair
2. Remove the air hose and air cleaner component. Service and Repair
3. Remove the battery cover, battery duct, battery clamp, battery and battery tray. Removal and Replacement
4. Disconnect the fuel hose. Service and Repair
5. Remove the following parts.
a. Front wheels and tires Service and Repair
b. Under cover and splash shields
c. A/C drive belt Service and Repair
d. A/C compressor with the pipes still connected
NOTE:
- Secure the A/C compressor using wire or rope so that it is out of the way.
6. Drain the ATF (ATX) or transaxle oil (MTX). (See Automatic Transaxle Fluid (ATF) Replacement [FS5A-EL] (ATX).) (See Transaxle Oil Replacement [G35M-R] (MTX).)
7. Drain the engine coolant. Service and Repair
8. Disconnect the brake vacuum hose.
9. Remove the following parts.
a. Member Service and Repair
b. Front crossmember, front stabilizer, lower arm, steering gear Removal and Replacement
c. Drive shafts Drive Shaft Removal/Installation
d. Coolant reserve tank with the hose still connected
e. Cooling fan component Service and Repair
f. ATF hose, selector cable and wiring harness (ATX) Automatic Transaxle Removal/Installation [FS5A-EL]
g. Shift cable (MTX) (See Manual Transaxle Removal/Installation [G35M-R] (MTX).)
h. Clutch release cylinder with the pipe still connected (MTX) Service and Repair
10. Disconnect the heater hose.
11. Disconnect the upper and lower radiator hose.
12. Disconnect the presilencer. Service and Repair
13. Remove in the order indicated in the table.
14. Install in the reverse order of removal.
CAUTION:
- Do not tighten the No.1 engine mount rubber bolt before tightening the No.3 engine mount rubber bolt.
15. Start the engine. And inspect and adjust them if necessary.
16. Inspect the following and adjust them if necessary.
- Front wheel alignment Front Wheel Alignment
- Puller and belt for runout and contact
- Leakage of engine oil, engine coolant, ATF, transaxle oil, and fuel
- Ignition timing, idle speed, and amount of CO, HC Testing and Inspection
- Engine-driven accessories operation
NOTE:
- If the engine is overhauled and installed to the vehicle, perform the road test and verify that there is no abnormality.
Main Fuse Block Connector Removal Note
1. Release the tab in the order shown in the figure.
2. Pull the lock lever up and remove the connector.
No.3 Engine Mount and No.4 Engine Mount Rubber Removal Note
1. Secure the engine and transaxle using an engine jack.
No.3 Engine Mount and No.4 Engine Mount Rubber Installation Note
NOTE:
- Do not tighten the bolt and nut for the No.1 engine mount rubber and No.4 engine mount rubber during this step.
1. Secure the engine and transaxle using an engine jack.
2. Install the No.1 engine mount rubber and No.4 engine mount rubber.
3. Tighten the new No.4 engine mount rubber bolt as shown in the figure.
Tightening torque
- 129.9-152.7 Nm {13.3-15.5 kgf-m, 95.9-112.6 ft-lbf}
4. Tighten the No.4 engine mount rubber and battery bracket bolts and nuts in the order as shown in the figure.
Tightening torque
- 44-61 Nm {4.5-6.2 kgf-m, 32.5-44.9 ft-lbf}
- 8.8-12.7 Nm {90-129 kgf-cm, 77.9-112.4 in-lbf}
NOTE:
- If the No.3 engine mount bracket and the engine are removed, retighten the No.3 engine mount stud bolts.
5. Tighten the No.3 engine mount bracket stud bolts.
Tightening torque
- 7.0-13.0 Nm {71.4-132.5 kgf-cm, 62-115 in-lbf}
6. Tighten the No.3 engine mount bracket bolts and nuts in the order as shown in the figure.
Tightening torque
- 74.5-104.9 Nm {7.6-10.6 kgf-m, 55-77 ft-lbf}
No.1 Engine Mount Rubber Installation Note
1. Remove the engine jack and attachment.
2. Tighten the No.1 engine mount rubber bolts as shown in the figure.
CAUTION:
- Tighten the bolts in the order shown in the figure to prevent abnormal noise and vibration after assembly.
NOTE:
- Tighten bolts 1 and 2 to the same tightening torque.
Bolt length (measured from below the head)
- Front crossmember side: 62 mm {2.441 in}
- No.1 engine mount bracket side: 65 mm {2.559 in}
Tightening torque
- 104.2-132.6 Nm {10.7-13.5 kgf-m, 76.9-97.8 ft-lbf}
