Subject:
ADVANCED KEYLESS ENTRY AND PUSH BUTTON START SYSTEM

APPLICABLE MODEL(S) / VINS
2009 MAZDA6 vehicles equipped with advanced keyless entry and push button start system

DESCRIPTION

The new Mazda6 features a newly developed Advanced Keyless Entry and Push Button Start System.

To efficiently transport vehicles, the 15A room fuse remains installed during transit to maintain advanced keyless entry operation. In order to prevent a dead battery if the vehicle will be stored for an extended period of time, it is recommended the 15A room fuse be disconnected. With the fuse disconnected, advanced keyless entry function is suspended. Additionally, the auxiliary key must be inserted (but not turned) into the steering lock in order to start the engine using the push button start system.

BEFORE DELIVERING THE VEHICLE TO THE CUSTOMER, BE SURE TO:

- RECONNECT THE 15A ROOM FUSE.

- INSERT THE AUXILIARY KEYS BACK INTO EACH TRANSMITTER.

- MAKE SURE THE ENGINE STARTS WITH THE PUSH BUTTON START SYSTEM.

- REINITIALIZE THE POWER WINDOWS.

NOTE:
^ When the room fuse is disconnected, the ignition cannot be switched to ACC/ON/START by pressing the push button without the auxiliary key inserted into the steering lock, even if the transmitter is being carried.

^ To start the engine when the room fuse is disconnected, (or to switch the ignition to ACC/ON), remove the auxiliary key from the transmitter and insert it into the steering lock (do not to turn the auxiliary key, just insert it), and depress the brake (A/T) or clutch (M/T) pedal, then press the push button start system.

^ To start the engine when the transmitter battery is low or advance keyless is inoperative, (both are indicated by the red "KEY Warning Light" in the instrument cluster), remove the auxiliary key from the transmitter and insert it into the steering lock (do not to turn the auxiliary key, just insert it), and depress the brake (A/T) or clutch (M/T) pedal, then press the push button start system.

REPAIR PROCEDURE

1. Reconnect 15A room fuse into fuse box.

2. Insert auxiliary keys back into each transmitter.

3. Remove hole cover from glovebox and install (notch down) over column cover.

4. Verify engine starts using push button.
