2009-2010 Mazda6 2.5L vehicles produced before October 27, 2009
DESCRIPTION
After being parked in the sun, some vehicles may experience a MIL illumination with DTC P0111:00 when starting the engine.
DTC P0111:00_IAT sensor circuit range/performance problem
Due to extreme heat, the difference between the intake air temperature sensor and the coolant temperature sensor readings exceed the threshold for malfunction detection (difference of IAT-ECT greater than 64°F (18°C) for 1.2 sec.) illuminates the MIL.
The PCM software logic has been changed accordingly:
1. Temperature threshold for malfunction detection has been changed from 64°F to 75°F (18°C to 24°C).
2. Period threshold for malfunction detection has been extended from 1.2 sec. to 20 sec.
Customers having this concern should have their vehicle repaired using the following repair procedure.
REPAIR PROCEDURE
1. Verify customer concern.
NOTE:
Verify with the customer that the vehicle has been parked in the sun for several hours.
2. Verify that TSB 01-054/09 MAZDA SERVICE PROGRAM (MSP27) - READINESS CODE FOR EVAPORATIVE MONITORING SYSTEM" has been completed on the subject vehicle.
- If "M5P27" has not been completed on the subject vehicle, perform the repair according to the TSB 01-054/09.
- If "MSP27" has already been completed, diagnose the DTC (PO111:00) according to M53 online instructions or the Workshop Manual.
3. Verify repair.
WARRANTY INFORMATION
NOTE:
^ If TSB 01-054/09 MAZDA SERVICE PROGRAM (M5P27) - READINESS CODE FOR EVAPORATIVE MONITORING SYSTEM" is performed on the subject vehicle, use the existing warranty information in the service bulletin for the warranty claim.
^ If DTC PO111:00 is diagnosed according to M53 online instructions or the Workshop Manual, use normal diagnostic time.
