Curtain Air Bag Module Removal/Installation

CURTAIN AIR BAG MODULE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION

WARNING:
- Handling the air bag module improperly can accidentally deploy the air bag module, which may seriously injure you. Read the air bag system service warnings and cautions before handling the air bag module. Air Bag System Service Warnings Air Bag System Service Cautions

1. Switch the ignition to off.

2. Disconnect the negative battery cable and wait for 1 min or more.

3. Partially peel back the seaming welt.

4. Remove the rain sensor cover. (Vehicles with auto light/wiper system) (See Service and Repair)

5. Disconnect the rain sensor connector. (Vehicles auto light/wiper system)

6. Remove the following parts:
a. Sunroof seaming welt (vehicles with sunroof system)

b. A-pillar trims A-Pillar Trim Removal/Installation

c. Front scuff plate Front Scuff Plate Removal/Installation

d. Rear scuff plate Rear Scuff Plate Removal/Installation

e. B-pillar lower trims B-Pillar Lower Trim Removal/Installation

f. Upper anchor of the front seat belt Front Seat Belt Removal/Installation

g. B-pillar upper trims B-Pillar Upper Trim Removal/Installation

h. Rear seat cushion Rear Seat Cushion Removal/Installation

i. Rear side seat back Rear Side Seat Back Removal/Installation

j. C-pillar trims C-Pillar Trim Removal/Installation

7. Disconnect the auto-dimming mirror connector. (vehicles with auto-dimming mirror)

8. Remove the sunvisors. (See Service and Repair)

9. Remove the map light. (See Map Light Removal/Installation)

10. Remove the assist handle. (See Service and Repair)

11. Remove the headliner. Service and Repair

12. Disconnect the connector.











13. Remove the bolts.

14. Remove the clip A.

15. Pull hook A in the direction shown in the figure and remove it from the body.

16. Pull hook B in the direction shown in the figure and remove it from the body.

17. Pull hook C in the direction shown in the figure and remove it from the body.

18. Pull hook D in the direction shown in the figure and remove it from the body.

19. Pull clip B in the direction shown in the figure and remove it from the body.

20. Pull hook E in the direction shown in the figure and remove it from the body.

21. Pull hook F in the direction shown in the figure and remove it from the body.

22. Remove the curtain air bag module.

23. Install in the reverse order of removal.

24. When the switch the ignition to ON verify that the air bag system warning light illuminates for approx. 6 s and goes out.

- If the air bag system warning light does not operate normally, refer to the on-board diagnostic system (air bag system) and perform inspection of the system. Flowchart

Clip A Removal Note

1. Pull out the pin to the position shown in the figure.






2. Insert a flathead screwdriver into the service hole.






3. While pulling the curtain air bag in the direction of the arrow shown in the figure, detach tabs A and B by prying with a flathead screwdriver in the direction of the arrow.






4. Remove the clip from the body.
