PVC SHIFTER KNOB GOUGED / DAMAGED

2009 MAZDA6 vehicles produced before Dec. 16, 2008
DESCRIPTION
Some vehicles may have a gouged / damaged PVC shifter knob. If the damage is slight, the shifter knob surface can be repaired using a heat gun.
NOTE:
This repair does not apply to leather covered shifter knobs or to damages caused by customer abuse.
Customers having this concern should have their vehicle repaired using the following repair procedure.
REPAIR PROCEDURE
1. Verify customer concern.
2. Remove shifter knob from A/T shifter assembly.
3. Position heat gun on work bench or table holding shifter knob 1" away from heat gun.
4. Heat gouged area of shifter knob for approx. 20 ~ 30 seconds, checking the surface condition every ten (10) seconds to avoid discoloration.
CAUTION:
Do not overheat the shifter knob, otherwise discoloration may occur.
WARNING:
Do not touch the heated surface of the shifter knob while it is hot.
5. Allow shifter knob to cool down for approx. five (5) minutes.
6. Reinstall shifter knob onto A/T shifter assembly turning it thirteen (13) times on the shaft thread. Adjust it to straight forward position on fourteenth (14th) turn.
7. Verify repair.
