Repair Procedure

REPAIR PROCEDURE

NOTE:
The dashboard DOES NOT need to be fully removed from the vehicle to complete this repair, however, it will need to be loosened and moved back to gain access for foam installation. Follow the steps listed below to loosen and access the dashboard. If further dashboard information is needed, refer to MS3 online repair information or Workshop Manual (section 09-17 DASHBOARD REMOVAL/INSTALLATION).

1. Verify customer concern.

2. Apply parking brake.

3. Place gear shifter in D range.

4. Record customer's preset radio stations.

5. Disconnect negative battery cable.

6. Remove upper panel (console cup holder).

7. Remove shifter panel.

8. Remove driver and passenger decoration panels.

9. Remove center panel lower (trim around HVAC controls, including power point and start button if equipped).

10. Remove rear console.

11. Remove left and right front door seaming welts.

12. Remove left and right A pillar trim pieces.

CAUTION:
Use caution when removing the top retaining clip to avoid breakage.

13. Remove left and right kick panel trim pieces.

14. Remove glove box.

15. Remove hood release cable.

16. Remove knee bolster.

17. Remove metal bracket under column; four (4) screws.

18. Remove steering column lower trim; three (3) screws.

19. Remove four (4) retaining nuts for steering column; lower column.

20. Remove meter hood.

21. Remove meter set.





22. Remove dashboard retainers (A, B, C, D and E) and caps (F).

Tightening Torque:

^ Bolt A: 16-22 Nm {1.7-2.2 kgf-m, 12-16 ft-lbf}

^ Bolts B and E: 2.1-2.9 Nm {22-29 kgf-cm, 19-25 in-lbf}

^ Bolts C and D: 17-23 Nm {1.8-2.3 kgf-m, 13-16 ft-lbf}





23. Move dashboard back approximately six (6) inches to access dashboard foam.

24. Remove section of foam that has migrated.

25. Clean glue from dashboard with locally sourced adhesive remover.

26. Prep surface with isopropyl alcohol to ensure a clean surface to attach the new foam to.

27. Install new foam next to old foam (between old foam and passenger compartment), ensuring it is not on grained dashboard surface or the old foam.





28. Reinstall in reverse order of removal.

29. Reconnect negative battery cable.

30. Re-enter customer's preset radio stations.

31. Verify repair.
