MAZDA SERVICE PROGRAM (MSP20) - GLOVE BOX STOPPER OVER-TRAVEL

APPLICABLE MODEL(S)/VINS
2009 MAZDA6 vehicles produced on or before August 14, 2008

DESCRIPTION

Some vehicles may experience a glove box concern in high ambient temperature and heavy load condition that results in stopper over-travel.

NOTE:
^ UNDER THE MAZDA SERVICE PROGRAM (MSP20), ALL CURRENT DEALER INVENTORY AND RETAILED VEHICLES FOUND TO BE PRODUCED ON OR BEFORE AUGUST 14, 2008, MUST BE INSPECTED AND REPAIRED ACCORDING TO THE INSTRUCTIONS CONTAINED IN THIS SERVICE BULLETIN.

^ BEFORE PERFORMING ANY REPAIR, VALIDATE THAT THE VEHICLE IS APPLICABLE TO THIS PROGRAM BY PERFORMING AN "eMDCS WARRANTY VEHICLE INQUIRY" AND VERIFYING THE VEHICLE DISPLAYS CAMPAIGN "MSP20" AND ITS CAMPAIGN STATUS DISPLAYS "OPEN". SEE "VEHICLE INSPECTION PROCEDURE" BELOW.

DEALER INVENTORY:

Inspect and repair if necessary, all applicable vehicles currently in dealer inventory according to the procedures contained in this service bulletin.

RETAIL VEHICLES:

When an applicable retail vehicle is brought into the dealer for any type of repair or scheduled maintenance, perform an eMDCS Warranty Vehicle Inspection and check the status of MSP20. If status of MSP20 is "OPEN" inspect and repair if necessary, the vehicle according to the procedures contained in this service bulletin.

VEHICLE INSPECTION PROCEDURE

1. Verify 2009 MAZDA6 vehicle was produced on or before August 14, 2008:

- If the vehicle was not produced on or before August 14, 2008, return the vehicle to the customer or dealer inventory.

- If the vehicle was produced on or before August 14, 2008, proceed to Step 2.








2. Perform a Warranty Vehicle Inquiry using your eMDCS System and inspect the vehicle for a Campaign Label MSP20 attached to the vehicle's hood. Refer to eMDCS System - Warranty Vehicle Inquiry Results table above.

NOTE:
Verify the campaign number as the vehicle may have multiple labels.

REPAIR PROCEDURE

1. Remove glove box assembly according to Workshop Manual (section 09-17 GLOVE COMPARTMENT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION).





2. Inspect glove box for "ribs" around stops.

- If ribs are present around stops, glove box is modified; no repair is necessary. Proceed to "CAMPAIGN LABEL INSTALLATION".





- If ribs are not present around stops, glove box is not modified. Proceed to Step 3.





3. Using a 1/8" (3.1 mm) diameter drill bit, drill a hole through the right and left side glove box side walls at the center of each stopper.

4. Reinstall glove box into vehicle.

5. With glove box in open position, tighten LEFT side tapping screw (without any washers) into newly drilled hole.

CAUTION:
ONLY USE HAND TOOL FOR SCREW INSTALLATION. POWER TOOL COULD DAMAGE GLOVE BOX.





6. Tighten RIGHT side tapping screw using two (1 mm) washers into newly drilled hole.

NOTE:
Be careful not to overtighten screws and strip out the holes.





7. Verify repair.

CAMPAIGN LABEL INSTALLATION





1. Fill out a blue "Campaign Label" (9999-95-065A-05) with the Campaign No: "MSP20", your dealer code, today's date, and affix it to the vehicle's hood.

2. Return vehicle to customer or dealer inventory.
