Brake Pedal Assy: Testing and Inspection

BRAKE PEDAL INSPECTION

Brake Pedal Height Inspection

1. Measure the distance from the steering shaft cover installation surface to the center of the upper surface of the pedal pad as shown in the figure and verify that it is as specified.

Brake pedal height (reference value)
- 167.9 mm {6.610 in}

Brake Pedal Height Adjustment

CAUTION:
- The brake switch may not operate normally after adjusting the pedal height. Whenever adjusting the pedal height, replace the brake switch with a new one.

1. Loosen locknut A and turn the bolt B until it does not contact the pedal.

2. Remove the snap pin and clevis pin.

3. Remove the brake pedal installation nuts C.

4. Move the power brake unit component a little toward the vehicle front while being careful of the brake pipes.

5. Loosen locknut D and turn the fork E to adjust the height.

6. Tighten the locknut D and the brake pedal installation nuts C. Service and Repair

7. Install the snap pin and clevis pin.

8. Turn the bolt B and adjust the clearance between the bolt B and the rubber.

Clearance
- 1.2-2.2 mm {0.048-0.086 in}

9. Tighten the bolt B with locknut A.

Tightening torque
- 10-14 Nm {102-142 kgf-cm, 89-123 in-lbf}

10. After adjustment, inspect the pedal play and the brake light operation.

Brake Pedal Play Inspection

1. Depress the pedal a few times to eliminate the vacuum in the system.

2. Remove the snap pin and clevis pin, verify that the holes in the fork and in the pedal are aligned, and reinstall the pin. Service and Repair

3. Gently depress the pedal by hand until resistance is felt, and check the pedal play.

Brake pedal play
- 4-8 mm {0.2-0.3 in}

Pedal-to-floor Clearance Inspection

1. Start the engine and depress the brake pedal with a force of 147 N {15.0 kgf, 33.0 lbf}

2. Verify that the distance from the floor covering to the pedal pad center is as specified when the pedal is depressed.

- If the distance is less than specified, check for air in brake system.

Brake pedal-to-floor clearance (Brake pedal when depressed at 147 N {15.0 kgf, 33.0 lbf})
- 95.4 mm {3.76 in}
