Engine - Oil Level Service Caution
Bulletin No.: 01-044/08Last Issued: 9/5/2008
Subject:
3.5L/3.7L - ENGINE OIL LEVEL SERVICE CAUTION
APPLICABLE MODEL(S)/VINS
2007-2009 CX-9
2009 MAZDA6 with 3.7L V6
DESCRIPTION
When inspecting the engine oil level on the dipstick (A) of 2007-2009 CX-9 or 2009 Mazda6 vehicles equipped with 3.5L/3.7L engines, it is important to understand that the oil is full when it reaches the upper portion of the cross hatched area (B). Filling until the oil level reaches the upper dot above the cross hatched area (C) could result in oil overfill and aeration of the oil. Due to the 3.5L/3.7L engines internal design, it takes longer for all the oil to drain back to the oil pan after the engine is shut off than other Mazda engines.
During a service such as an oil change or engine replacement, after filling the engine with the correct amount of oil (depending on the service) and running the engine to circulate the oil, wait approximately 5 minutes to ensure the oil level indicated is at the correct level and top-off as necessary.
