2009-2013 MAZDA6 - UNUSUAL NOISE FROM FRONT WHEEL BEARING

APPLICABLE MODEL(S)/VINS

2009-2013 Mazda6 2.5L vehicles produced before February 15, 2012

2009-2013 Mazda6 3.7L vehicles produced before July 18, 2012

DESCRIPTION

Some vehicles may exhibit an unusual humming noise from the front wheel bearing(s) while driving.This may be caused by muddy water entering the wheel bearings, which causes the bearings to rust. The bearing seal
has been improved to eliminate this concern.

Customers having this concern should have their vehicle repaired using the following repair procedure.

REPAIR PROCEDURE

1. Verify customer concern.

2. Safely lift the vehicle with a hoist.

3. Turn the front wheels by hand to identify the affected side(s).

4. Perform the wheel bearing excessive play inspection according to the MS3 online instructions or Workshop manual (section 03-11 WHEEL BEARING EXCESSIVE PLAY INSPECTION).

5. Replace the affected wheel bearing(s) according to the MS3 online instructions or Workshop manual (section 03-11 WHEEL HUB, STEERING KNUCKLE DISASSEMBLY/ASSEMBLY).





NOTE:
Be sure to replace the retaining clip (A), dust cover (B) and locknut (C) with new ones during wheel bearing (D) replacement.

6. Verify repair.
