Shift Rod and Shift Fork Disassembly

Component Identification: Shift Rod and Shift Fork






Following are directions for disassembly and inspection of the Shift Forks and Shift Rods:









Clutch Hub Sleeve and Shift Fork Inspection










- Use these directions to inspect each of the Shift Sleeves and Shift Forks that have a concern
- Use a Vernier Caliper:

1. Measure the width of the clutch hub sleeve groove
- Write the measurement in the chart

2. Measure the thickness of the shift fork
- Write the measurement in the chart

3. Calculate the clearance

Use the instructions to calculate the clearances




- Record any parts that need replacement on the Repair Order

Only disassemble the Shift Forks and Arms to replace worn or damaged components




1. Remove the Spring-Pin from the reverse shift arm
- Discard the spring pin. You must use a new one for assembly




2. Remove the Reverse Shift Arm




3. Remove the 3rd / 4th Shift Fork




4. Remove the Spring Pin from the stopper block
- Discard the spring pin. You must use a new one for assembly




5. Remove the Stopper Block

Combine Step 6 and 7




6. Remove the 5th Shift Arm
7. Remove the Pressure Spring and Steel Ball from the 5th Shift Arm
- Place the Spring and Steel Detent Ball into the bag marked Springs and Steel Detent Balls




8. The Shift Rod is bare




9. Remove the 5th / Reverse Shift Fork




10. Remove the Interlock Sleeve




11. Remove the 1st / 2nd Shift Fork




12. The Shift Rod is bare
