Brake Switch Inspection (ATX)

BRAKE SWITCH INSPECTION [ATX]

CAUTION:
- Inspect the brake switch with it installed to the brake pedal and with it connected to the connector, otherwise the brake switch may not operate normally after inspection. If the brake switch is removed from the brake pedal or it is disconnected from the connector, replace the brake switch with a new one.

1. Measure the voltage between the following terminals and body ground and verify that the voltage is as indicated in the table.

- If the voltage is not as indicated in the table, repair or replace the brake switch or wiring harness according to the following indications:

- If terminal B is B+ and terminal D is 1 V or less regardless of the brake pedal status:
Replace the brake switch. (Brake switch internal malfunction)
- If terminals B and D are both B+ regardless of the brake pedal status:
Inspect for continuity between terminals B-D with the brake switch connector disconnected and the brake pedal released. If continuity is detected, replace the brake switch. If continuity is not detected, repair or replace the wiring harness and replace the brake switch with a new one. (Short in internal brake switch or circuit related to brake switch)
- If terminal A is B+ and terminal C is 1 V or less regardless of the brake pedal status:
Replace the brake switch. (Brake switch internal malfunction)
- If terminals A and C are both B+ regardless of the brake pedal status:
Inspect for continuity between terminals A-C with the brake switch connector disconnected and the brake pedal depressed. If continuity is detected, replace the brake switch. If continuity is not detected, repair or replace the wiring harness and replace the brake switch with a new one. (Short in internal brake switch or circuit related to brake switch)
