CRACK ON PARKING BRAKE LEVER COVER

APPLICABLE MODEL(S)/VINS

2010-2012 Mazda3 vehicles with VINs lower than JM1BL******598203 (produced before January 18, 2012)

DESCRIPTION





Some vehicles may exhibit a crack (A) on the edge of the parking brake cover (B). This is caused by improper shape of the grip end (C). To correct the problem, the shape of the grip end has been changed.

Customers having this concern should have their vehicle repaired using the following repair procedure.

REPAIR PROCEDURE

1. Verify customer concern, then replace the cover and grip with new ones.





2. Remove the console shift panel. Refer to MS3 online instructions or Workshop manual section 09-20 SHIFT PANEL REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.





3. While pulling down the cover (A), cut the top lower end of the grip (B) about 40 mm with a cutting blade.





4. Expand the grip (A) and remove the cover (B).





5. Install a new cover, then fully insert a new grip, lining up the channel (A) with the projection (B).

6. Install the console shift panel.

7. Verify repair.
