CREAK NOISE FROM REAR SHOCK

APPLICABLE MODEL(S)/VINS
2010-2012 Mazda3 vehicles with 17 inch wheels and VINs lower than
JM1BL******622215 (produced before March 1, 2012)

DESCRIPTION

Some vehicles may exhibit a creaking noise from the rear shock absorber(s) when passing over a bump on the road or turning at 6-12 mph (10-20 km/h). The creaking may be a stick slip noise occuring between the bound stopper component and the rod of the rear shock absorber. To correct the problem, grease is applied at the inner surface of the bound stopper component.

Customers having this concern should have their vehicle repaired using the following repair procedure.

REPAIR PROCEDURE

1. Verify customer concern.

2. Remove the rear tire(s).





3. Slide the dust cover (A) down from the bound stopper component (B).





4. Pack Mazda Silicone Brake Grease into the clearance gap around the the lower end (A) of the bound stopper component (C) and apply it to the rod of the rear shock absorber (B) above the dust cover (D).

5. Slide the dust cover back onto the bound stopper component.

6. Install the rear tire(s).

7. Verify repair.
