Subject: MAZDA SERVICE PROGRAM (MSP34) - WATER LEAK FROM LEFT SIDE A-PILLAR / COWL AREA

(produced from September 29, 2011 through October 24, 2011)
DESCRIPTION
On certain 2012 Mazda6 vehicles, water may leak from the left side A-pillar/cowl area.
NOTE:
^ UNDER THE MAZDA SERVICE PROGRAM (MSP34), ALL CURRENT DEALER INVENTORY AND RETAILED VEHICLES FOUND TO BE WITHIN THE ABOVE VIN AND PRODUCTION DATES RANGES MUST BE REPAIRED ACCORDING TO THE INSTRUCTIONS CONTAINED IN THIS SERVICE BULLETIN.
^ BEFORE PERFORMING ANY REPAIR, VALIDATE THAT THE VEHICLE IS APPLICABLE TO THIS PROGRAM BY PERFORMING AN "eMDCS WARRANTY VEHICLE INQUIRY" AND VERIFYING THE VEHICLE DISPLAYS CAMPAIGN M5P34" AND ITS CAMPAIGN STATUS DISPLAYS OPEN". SEE VEHICLE INSPECTION PROCEDURE" BELOW.
DEALER INVENTORY
Repair all applicable vehicles currently in dealer inventory according to the procedures contained in this service bulletin.
RETAILED VEHICLES:
When an applicable retailed vehicle is brought into the dealer for any type of repair or scheduled maintenance, perform an eMDCS Warranty Vehicle Inspection and check the status of MSP34. If status of MSP34 is "OPEN" repair the vehicle according to the procedures contained in this service bulletin.
VEHICLE INSPECTION PROCEDURE
1. Verify the vehicle is within the following VIN and production date ranges:
2012 Mazda6 vehicles produced from September 29, 2011 through October 24, 2011
^ VIN Range: 1YVHZ8***C5 M06315 - M12731
- If the vehicle is within the above VIN and production date ranges, proceed to Step 2.
- If the vehicle is not within the above VIN and production date ranges, return the vehicle to the customer or inventory.
NOTE:
Some vehicles within this range have already been reworked at the port.
2. Perform a Warranty Vehicle Inquiry using your eMDCS System and inspect the vehicle for a Campaign Label MSP34 attached either to the vehicle's bulkhead or to the vehicle's hood. Refer to eMDCS System - Warranty Vehicle Inquiry Results table below.
NOTE:
Verify the campaign number as the vehicle may have multiple labels.
eMDCS System - Warranty Vehicle Inquiry Results
INSPECTION PROCEDURE
1. Using a hose, pour low pressure water onto the left lower windshield area for one (1) minute.
2. Remove left side scuff plate.
3. Remove left side kick panel.
4. Pull the carpet back and inspect the floor panel below the fuse block for any signs of water leakage.
- If water is not present, the inspection is complete. Proceed to "CAMPAIGN LABEL".
- If water is present, proceed to "REPAIR PROCEDURE".
REPAIR PROCEDURE
1. Raise the steering column to the top most position.
2. Move the driver seat to the full rear position.
3. Remove foot rest.
4. For Advanced Keyless Entry vehicles only: Wiggle the keyless control module (A) until it comes off ofthe bracket, then remove two (2) nuts.
5. Use a 10 mm socket to remove two (2) bolts and two (2) nuts from the LH dash gusset.
6. Remove the white push clip and remove the cowl insulator pad to see the cowl side seam.
7. Tape (A) the LH dash gusset so the seam (B) can be clearly visible and easily accessible.
8. Apply air dry sealer (Mazda Seam Sealer - p/n: 0000-77-RPKT-M6) on the seam by using a brush (from top of the seam to the bottom stud where the dash gusset sits).
9. Use a latex glove, push the sealer into the seam using a finger (if required, apply more sealer and push it into the seam). This is a very important step.
10. Pour water onto the left side of the front windshield with a water hose to confirm no water is leaking through the seam. If water leaks through, apply more sealer into the seam.
11. Realign cowl insulator pad correctly and reinstall white push clip.
12. Remove tape and reinstall dash gusset by securing two (2) bolts and two (2) nuts.
NOTE
Ensure the wiring harness is not trapped under the gusset.
13. For Advanced Keyless Entry vehicles only: Reinstall bracket by securing two (2) nuts and then slide the keyless control module into the bracket.
14. For Advanced Keyless Entry vehicles only: Press the brake pedal and ensure the green indicator light appears on the start button.
15. For Advanced Keyless Entry vehicles only: Press the start button to start the engine and confirm the proper installation of the SKE module connectors.
16. Reinstall foot rest.
17. Reinstall kick panel.
18. Reinstall scuff plate.
19. Proceed to "CAMPAIGN LABEL".
CAMPAIGN LABEL:
1. Fill out a blue Campaign Label" (9999-95-065A-06) with the Campaign No: MSP34", your dealer code, today's date, and affix it to the vehicle's bulkhead or hood.
2. Return the vehicle to the customer or dealer inventory.
