A fuel cooler is installed to reduce the formation of vapour bubbles in the fuel system at high outside temperatures. The fuel cooler is located in the refrigerant return line between evaporator and AC compressor. When the engine is running, the excess fuel in the fuel distributor flows back pressureless through the fuel cooler into the fuel tank.

So long as the AC compressor is operating, heat is withdrawn from the fuel by the gaseous refrigerant which flows through the inner pipe of the fuel cooler.
