Radio Mode, Function

The Audio 30 APS radio menu can be activated by pressing the "AUDIO" button on the radio and navigation unit (A2/56).

Radio reception, function
The FM (UKW) and AM (SW, MW, LW) radio frequency signals are received by the antenna installed on the vehicle. The radio frequency signals received are modulated with the music, voice and data signals.
The radio frequency signals are first conducted from the antenna over a coaxial cable to the antenna amplifier where they are amplified. The antenna amplifier used depends on the specific vehicle.

The radio frequency signals are then relayed to the radio receiver over coaxial cable.

The radio receiver demodulates the radio frequency signals, i.e. it separates the information from the radio frequency carrier signal. The demodulated audio signals are amplified and converted to acoustic signals by the vehicle loudspeakers.

Possibilities for radio station selection:
Manual station search
Automatic station search with scan function (stations in frequency range are played for approx. 8 s)
Station selection from memory (6 stations per frequency range)

Radio Data System (RDS), function
Many radio stations (FM) transmit information such as the station name, type of program (PTY) (e.g. pop, culture, ..), traffic station recognition and alarm announcements (PTY 31) in addition to the program. This information is evaluated and indicated on the display when:

the RDS function is switched on and
an RDS station is tuned in and being received.

When an RDS station is being received, the abbreviation "TP" appears on the display; TP means traffic program. Even when the RDS function is deactivated, the traffic station recognition and station following feature remain active (if activated separately). RDS alarm announcements (PTY 31) are still output. In this case, the CD or radio output is automatically interrupted.

Two-tuner technology feature, function
If interference occurs while driving, the system attempts to receive the selected station on an alternative frequency with the aid of the second (integrated) receiver and to switch over if the reception is better.
Moreover, the second radio receiver automatically generates a list of receivable FM stations after it is switched on and this list is updated continuously during operation.
The stations contained in the list can be called up sorted in alphabetical order with the station search keys.

NOTE: The station list is available only when the RDS feature is activated.

NOTE: Some programs from the radio networks are divided up into regional programs at certain transmission times. Since the system automatically switches over to an alternative frequency as described previously, if reception interference is present, this can also result in a change in the regional program (not radio network). If this is not desired, the regional program feature can be activated with the "REG" menu. Switchover to an alternative frequency is then accomplished only within the regional program.
