CD operation with the integrated CD drive
The COMAND operating, display and control module (A40/3) is equipped with an integrated CD drive, which is alternately used for loading navigation data or playing audio CDs.
During the navigation mode no audio CDs can be played.
CD changer operation (with code 819)
The CD player with changer (in the trunk) (A2/6) is controlled by the COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3) . The control signals and the audio data from the CD player with changer (in trunk) (A2/6) are transmitted over the digital databus ( D2B).
Only 12 cm CDs may be inserted into the CD player with changer (in the trunk) (A2/6) ; no 8-cm CD adapters may be used.
In the case of the sound system (code 810) (as depicted above), the sound amplifier (2/13) carries out final amplification of the audio signals.
Signal transmission between the COMAND operating, display and control module (A40/3) sound amplifier (A2/13) and the ensues over the digital databus ( D2B).
The amplified signals are issued over the vehicle's loudspeaker system.
If the vehicle is equipped with the amplifier for the sound system (N40/3) , the COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3) must be accordingly encoded with the aid of the STAR diagnosis tool, as interference otherwise occurs on emission of the audio signals.
On vehicles with the sound system (code 810) (as depicted above), the sound amplifier (2/13) carries out final amplification of the audio signals.
If the vehicle is equipped with the sound amplifier (A2/13) , the COMAND operating, display and control module (A40/3) must be accordingly encoded with the aid of the STAR diagnosis tool, as interference otherwise occurs on emission of the audio signals.
The COMAND operating, display and control module (A40/3) in conjunction with the CD player with changer (in trunk) (A2/6) offers the following functions:
- Scan function
The title of a CD, or each respective first title of the CD of the complete magazine, are played for a period of 8 s . After a complete run through, the scan function is then automatically ended.
- Random function
All the titles on a CD or the complete CD magazine is played in random order.
- Repeat function
When selected, a track, a CD or the complete CD magazine is repeated.
- Fast forward/reverse (music search)
The music played during fast forwarding/reverse is audible. Certain parts of a title can therefore be specifically played or skipped.
CD title allocation, function
Each CD contains a firmly stored Table of Contents (TOC ) record. The COMAND operating, display and control module (A40/3) uses the entry to unambiguously identify each CD and can automatically designate it after the title has been uniquely allocated by the user (even if the CD has subsequently been placed into another CD magazine).
The TOC record additionally contains information regarding the number of titles on a CD and the total playing time of the CD.
