The task of the lower control panel control module (N72) is as follows:

Scanning the switches
- Left front power window switch (N72s1)
- Right front power window switch (N72s2)
- Left rear power window switch (N72s3)
- Right rear power window switch (N72s4)
- Rear power window safety switch (N72s5)
- Exterior mirror adjustment switch (N72s7)
- Left or right exterior mirror adjustment selector switch (N72s8)
- PTS switch (N72s13)
- Exterior mirror fold-in/out switch (N72s19)
- Central locking switch (N72s23)

Actuating the motors
- Left front power window motor (M10/3)
- Right front power window motor (M10/4)
- Left rear power window motor (M10/5)
- Right rear power window motor (M10/6)
- Mirror adjustment up/down motor (M21/1m1)
- Mirror adjustment in/out motor (M21/1m2)
- Mirror fold-in motor (M21/1m3)
- Mirror adjustment up/down motor (M21/2m1)
- Mirror adjustment in/out motor (M21/2m2)
- Mirror fold-in motor (M21/2m3)

The lower control panel control module (N72) is also responsible for evaluating the current ripple by means of a microcontroller.

The function states of the switches are indicated by the function illumination.
The lower control panel control module (N72) is linked to the engine compartment CAN-C for data exchange.
