Fuel Pump: Service and Repair



Removing and Installing Fuel Pumps







Removing, installing


DANGER: Risk of explosion from ignition, risk of poisoning from inhaling and swallowing fuel as well as risk of injury from skin and eye contact with fuel.

- No fire, sparks, naked flames or smoking. Pour fuels only into suitable and appropriately marked containers. Wear protective clothing when handling fuel.



1 Empty fuel tank


NOTE: Via fuel pump.


NOTE: If fuel pump defective.


Pay attention to capacity.
Refer to Fuel Tank below

2 Remove rear seat bench


NOTE: Only left rear seat bench.


3 Fold floor mat back far enough to provide access to cap (B4) between body and fuel pump.


CAUTION: Do not crease floor mat!


4 Remove cap (84) from body


NOTE: Cap (84) is sealed in with body sealer. Heat with hot air blower to make it easier to remove.


CAUTION: Installation: Insert together with new sealant.


5 Detach connector from fuel pump (arrow)
6 Unclip fuel delivery line (90/12) and fuel return line (90/11) and remove stationary heater fuel delivery line at connection (90/13) if present


CAUTION: Do not bend fuel lines.


CAUTION: If the vehicle is not equipped with a stationary heater (90/13), do not twist the stationary heater connection screw, since the screw is cast to the housing.

7 Unscrew acorn nut (89)

Refer to Fuel Pump below

8 Remove fuel pump (M3)


NOTE: Fuel level gauge sensor (B4) and fuel pump (M3) form a single unit and can therefore not be removed separately.


CAUTION: Installation: Renew acorn nut (89) and gasket (8912). Coat seal with oil for better installation (89/2).


9 Install in the reverse order
