Function
The left front side airbag ignition squib (R12/9) and right front side airbag ignition squib (R12/10) are triggered by an electrical pulse generated by the restraint systems control module (N2/7) (as of 12/99) or ETR control module with airbag (N2/2) (up to 11/99). The ignition squib ignites the solid propellant which generates a defined volume of gas under high pressure within a very short time.
The gas flows through a filter into the airbag, causing the flap in the door liner to tear open and the airbag inflates between the passenger and the door.
