Purpose




The restraint systems control module (N2/7) performs the following tasks under normal driving conditions:
- Self tests with terminal 15R ON and continuously monitors system during driving
- Updates fault memory
- Activates airbag indicator and warning light (A1e15) in the instrument cluster when an error is detected
- Activates Airbag OFF indicator light (A1e56) when a child restraint seat is detected.
- Activates timer (5 seconds) for the seat belt warning light (A1e9) in the instrument cluster (A1) when terminal 15 is ON
- Integrates supplementary sating sensor to prevent accidental deployment during normal driving
- Measures vehicle's current longitudinal and lateral acceleration
- Ensures that energy reserve is sufficient to trigger 5 detonators within 150 msec in the event of a power loss

During a crash event the restraint systems control module (N2/7) performs the following tasks:
- Senses and evaluates the type, severity and direction of the impact
- Compiles up to three event data records
- Cuts off engine via the injection system control module (N3) and triggers the emergency opening via the All Activity Module (AAM) by means of a separate (analog) crash cable
- Senses the state of the following seat belt buckle switches:
Left front seat belt buckle switch (S68/7),
Right front seat belt buckle switch (S68/8),
Left rear seat belt buckle switch (S68/11) and
Right rear seat belt buckle switch (S68/12)
- Triggers driver ETR detonator (R12/1) and passenger ETR detonator (R12/2)
- Triggers left rear ETR detonator (R12/6) and right rear ETR detonator (R12/7)
- To 31.8.00: Triggers driver airbag detonator (R12/3) and passenger airbag detonator 1 (R12/4)
- From 1.9.00: Triggers driver airbag detonator 1 (R12/13), driver airbag detonator 2 (R12/14), passenger airbag detonator 1 (R12/4) and passenger airbag detonator 2 (R12/5)
- Triggers left front sidebag detonator (R12/9) and right front sidebag detonator (R12/10)
- Triggers left rear sidebag detonator (R12/11) and right rear sidebag detonator (R12/12)
