AUDIBLE SEAT BELT WARNING CHIME

This campaign has been initiated due to an operational defect in the audible seat belt chime. All Mercedes-Benz M-Class vehicles are equipped with a seat belt warning chime, that is designed to sound when a driver is seated in a vehicle, the vehicle is started, but the driver's seat belt has not yet been buckled. In certain Model Year 2002 Mercedes-Benz M-class vehicles, the seat belt chime also sounds when the seat belt is fastened. In order to correct this operational defect, the SRS control module (N217) (Figure 1) must be recoded on the affected vehicles as indicated in the Effective Serial Number Range Table.

Prior to performing this Service Campaign, please check VMI to insure the vehicle is involved and to determine if the vehicle has been previously repaired.

A copy of the notification letter will be mailed to customers.
