Locking system with infrared remote control
Vehicle Keys
With your vehicle you have received
- 2 remote control units with folding master key
- 1 flat key
The infrared remote control unit operates the central locking system. The keys can be used to activate and disengage the central locking system from the driver's door. They can also be employed to lock and unlock the tailgate separately.
Remote control with folding master key
The master key fits all locks.
To fold out the master key:Press the release button (1). The key snaps out of its casing.
To fold in master key:Press the release button (1) and fold back the key.
Flat Key
The flat key fits all locks.
We recommended that you carry the flat key in a secure yet readily accessible place (such as your wallet) at all times.
Immobilizer
IMPORTANT:
- The immobilizer is activated when the vehicle is locked with the remote control unit.
- The vehicle must be unlocked by remote control before the engine can be restarted.
Obtaining replacement keys and remote control units
Substitute keys and remote control units are available exclusively from Mercedes-Benz service stations. The procedures for replacing lost keys can be extremely time consuming.
Consult the vehicle data cared for the key number.
Spare batteries for remote control
Spare batteries for the remote control are in the glove compartment.
The engine can only be started when the vehicle has been unlocked with the remote control. For this reason always have spare batteries in the vehicle so that it is possible to change the batteries any time.
Replace the batteries in the remote control every 2 years.Use the spare batteries in the glove compartment and put new batteries in the glove compartment.
Copy this loose sheet on the engine immobilizer, cut out along the lines, attach and add to the customer operating instructions.
1 Transmit button
2 Transmitter and battery display
Infrared remote control
The remote control unit operates the vehicle's central locking system, locking and unlocking all doors as well as the fuel filler flap.

The locking pins on all doors must retract completely when the locking system is activated.
Should one of the locking pins fail to retract, this indicates that the door latch mechanism is not fully engaged.Open the door, close it securely and then relock the vehicle.
It is possible to activate the central locking system from inside the vehicle by pressing down the locking pin on the driver's door. All doors must be closed securely.
When the front passenger door, a rear door or the tailgate is unlocked from the inside, all remaining doors and the fuel filler flap remain locked. Press down the locking pin again to relock the door.
