Radio
The roof antenna module (A2/93) filters the amplitude modulation (AM) and frequency modulation (FM) signals, amplifies them, and transmits them to the radio (A2). The AM and FM signals are demodulated in the radio receiver and the wanted signal is amplified and output over the vehicle speakers. With the amplifier for sound system (N40/3) with code (810) Sound system, the audio signals are digitized and transmitted by the radio via Media Oriented System Transport (MOST) to the amplifier for sound system. There, the audio signals are processed, amplified and then output to the vehicle speaker.

Radio functions
^ Receiver for FM and AM signals
^ Ten preset stations per waveband (FM, MW, LW, SW)
^ AM interference suppression
^ Generation of the signal for the intermediate frequency (IF [ZF]) feedback (for activating the diversity processor in the roof antenna module, only in the FM band)
^ Automatic stereo/mono
^ Automatic station search in 2 stages (SCAN)
^ SEEK (automatic station search for stored stations and automatic frequency search)
^ Tune (manual tuning)
^ RDS-EON
^ Selection of the preferred radio station (via buttons (number block) of the radio and via the function keys on the multifunction steering wheel, left multifunction steering wheel button group, right multifunction steering wheel button group)
^ Last Mode (when switched on again the system tunes to the radio station that was active last)

Playing audio CDs
The single-slot disk drive beneath the display and the CD changer (A2/6) (code (819) 6-disk CD changer) can play CD audio media (in Red Book audio format). The following can be controlled with the menu:
^ "TrackMix" (Off, CD, all CDs in CD changer)
^ "Repeat" (Off, Track, CD)
^ Track skip forward and backward
^ Manual title entry
^ Stop and play (with mute)
^ Track search forward/back
^ Intro Scan
^ Automatic CD reload (if medium has not been removed from the slot after several seconds)
^ Display of time, title and number of all the pieces of music
^ Number of track currently being played
^ Repeat status, track switch, play switch, random play switch

If the CD changer (code (819) 6-disk CD changer) is installed, the radio automatically displays which CD slots contain a CD. In this display, the CD change slots are numbered accordingly (CD1 to CD6). User guidance for controlling the CD functionality and displaying supplemental information appears in the radio display.
The most important information is displayed in the instrument cluster (A1).

The user can also control the most important functions via the buttons on the multifunction steering wheel (left multifunction steering wheel button group and right multifunction steering wheel button group). On vehicles with code (810) Sound system, the radio transmits the audio signals digitally to the amplifier for sound system via MOST. The audio signals are boosted by the amplifier for sound system and output via the vehicle's audio speakers.

On vehicles except code (810) Sound system, the audio signals are amplified by the radio and output directly over the speakers installed in the vehicle.
An external analog audio source can be connected to the radio via the AUX jack in the glove box.
