1 Ignition switch in driving position (position "2") and when starting the engine
1.1 ABS/ESP/4-ETS warning lamp (A1e36) and ABS indicator lamp (A1e17) come on and turn off again
^ The ABS/ESP/4-ETS warning lamp (A1e36) and the ABS indicator lamp (A1e17) come on in the instrument cluster (A1) when the ignition key is turned to the driving position. Both lamps turn off when the engine has been started. This indicates that the ETS is operational.
2 When driving
2.1 ABS/ESP/4-ETS warning lamp (A1e36) switched off
^ The ABS/ESP/4-ETS warning lamp (A1e36) remains off when the ETS control mode is not active (because a wheel has not exceeded the grip limit).
2.2 ABS/ESP/4-ETS warning lamp (A1e36) flashes
^ The ABS/ESP/4-ETS warning lamp (A1e36) flashes on and off when the vehicle speed is below approx. 60 km/h and the ETS control mode is active (when at least one wheel has exceeded the grip limit).
^ The ABS/ESP/4-ETS warning lamp (A1e36) flashes on and off when the vehicle speed exceeds approx. 60 km/h and the ETS control mode is not active even though at least one wheel has exceeded the grip limit. This indicates that the ESP braking torque control is now active.
The ETS is no longer activated at speeds above 60 km/h.
2.3 ABS indicator lamp (A1e17) comes on and stays on
^ The ABS indicator lamp (A1e17) comes on and stays on when
- the differential locks are activated,
- or the ETS is deactivated because the ABS is deactivated,
- due to an operational problem with the ABS,
- or due to an undervoltage for the ABS voltage supply.
The brake system continues to function normally.
2.4 ABS/ESP/4-ETS warning lamp (A1e36) comes on and stays on
^ The ETS is operational even if the ABS/ESP/4-ETS warning lamp (A1e36) comes on and stays on due to a defective ESP.
Deactivating the ESP
- by pressing the "ESP OFF (S76/6)" switch
- or activating the differential locks.
2.5 Multifunction display (A1p13)
^ If the ABS is switched off the ETS is also no longer available. Only a message regarding the ABS operational problem appears with the "ABS" symbol in the multifunction display (A1p13).
