Component Identification:

There is one differential located in the rear axle differential and one in the front axle gear.

The central differential module is the third differential and is located in the transfer case.

Task
The differentials compensate for rpm differences between the following components in the drive train:
^ Front axle and rear axle
^ Drive wheels on front axle
^ Drive wheels on rear axle

Component Identification:

Function
In the event of different rotational speeds between the differential side gears (3), the differential pinion gears (4) rotate on their axles mounted in the differential housing (2). The differential pinion gears roll over the differential side gears rotating at different speeds.

This compensates for the differences in rotational speed.
